Job Summary
According to the established policies and procedures of the organization, under the direction of the Nurse, the Care Aide assists residents and clients with activities of daily living, to ensure residents’ safety, comfort and well being.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists residents and clients with daily personal care including: bathing (bed-bath, tub, and shower), dressing, toileting, shaving, care of skin and hair, assisting with oral hygiene and changing bed.
- Performs routine nursing procedures such as: measuring and recording intake and output, collecting of specimens, and catheter care as per established procedures.
- Transfers/transports residents and clients using mechanical aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, and designated transfer equipment. Assists residents and clients with mobility as directed.
- Assists residents and clients to participate in recreational activities. Assists professional staff in carrying out physiotherapy or occupational therapy as directed.
- Performs light housekeeping (cleaning up of blood and body fluids, etc.) and cleaning wheelchairs, walkers and other resident care items.
- Assists in delivery of trays to residents and clients’ rooms, feeding of residents and clients when required, and assists in dining room as required.
- Collects soiled linens and transport to laundry.
- Ensures equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe manner.
- Observes and reports any change in residents or clients’ condition/behavior to team leader.
- May be required to accompany residents and clients to medical appointments.
- Participates in a variety of meetings and/or in-services, including case conferences, unit team meetings, departmental and interdepartmental meetings as directed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12 or equivalent, plus completion of recognized LTC Aide or Resident Care Attendant program; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Registration with the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry program
